Shake down the Shack

We are on the water, it floats, One small leak on the exhaust hose, but we are good. Wasn’t much of a shake down, but we did pull out the jib on our motor sail over to the underwater sculpture garden.

Long day, long long day. We thought we did a lot work to get the boat ready for splash, we did and we finally made it to the water. A quick trip to the grocery afterwards and we are now stocked with food an beverages for a while. Only a few beers so we will definitely need more soon. IGA in St. Georges has just about everything you need, except for eggs. Eggs? Really, seems everyone is stocking up for xmas. I’m not sure what eggs have to do with xmas, but Boney our wonderful taxi driver hooked us up. After waking him up and saying we were finally ready for a trip to the supermarket, he came and picked us up at the marina. He had another trip coming in at the airport in a few hours. Sounded like no big deal. It takes about an hour to get to the grocery store, and of course we are not quick when grabbing grub for a couple of weeks, but we did it as fast as we could, even sent Wayne to get gas for the dingy while we stock pilled as many pringles as could be loaded in a shopping cart. We then got to the eggs, not on in the store. Can’t make breakfast tacos without eggs. Pancakes for weeks? Enter Boney. On the ride back to the marina, he called the farm, where he used to work, they didn’t answer. He called another lady on top of the hill, and yup she had eggs, fresh ones. Quick detour and we scored a ‘flat’ of eggs. Breakfast will be served.

Raced back to the marina, so Boney could get his next guests and 2 trips in the dingy loaded with provisions and returning with more cash as we didn’t bring enough to pay Boney. All is good, took longer than expected but Christine was able to pacify Boney and also order us dinner at the bar that closed 2 mins before we go there. A cold cheese burger in paradise is still a burger in paradise.

Back to the boat for heated game of dominos on the lovely table while Christine took an early trip to bed.

We are in the water. Another long day if waiting. It is amazing.

7 months and the hours before the boat is to go in the water everyone shows up to complete/start the work projects that were requested oh so long ago.

Wash and wax guys were working all day. Wood guy who made an awesome table came by to finish the latches. The table was installed Friday evening so the canvas guy didn’t have time to make a cover. I’m all about procrastination but that’s a lot of hassle for trying to splash and leave here.

Beautiful morning

Great to wake up to the sounds of the waves and the chirping of the frogs and the sun coming up over the hills lighting the bay. Gathering our stuff to go to breakfast and to check out of the hotel shortly afterwards.

Thinking about walking to the yard instead of getting a ride. It’s only 1/2 a mile as a crow flies but a bit more than that since the path follows the shoreline.

Little sore from yesterday’s work.

Today hopefully we will get put in the water and fire up the engines. Then think about some provisions, beer and such. Hoist the jib, the easiest sail to put on. Saved that for when we are on the water to get a cool breeze.
